Come along on our ride...

We went home to Louisiana on Friday. At the time we didn't know where lovely hurricane Gustav would be, but we were not leaving Houston for that reason. Louisiana Tech had their first home football game, and Josh just doesn't miss those things!

Typically, Josh will take half day so we don't have to drive into the night. This way when we arrive, Abby will have time to play some and crawl around and stretch before it's time to go "nite-nite." We got off a little later than usual, this time 1:45pm. This drive is usually always 4hrs. But on this fabulous Friday, we had to ADD one hour.

Our luck is just the worst. If you can believe it, we saw THREE wrecks, and we had to sit for 55min.--STILL--while Hazmat cleaned up whatever happened. Obvioulsy, at the time, we didn't know what we were stuck behind. We're trying to make decisions like--do we want to turn around in this ditch and backtrack to go on "off" roads just to keep moving--kinda decisions. EVERYBODY was starting to turn around, but we didn't know exactly how to get home on anything else than what we were on, and it would be going quite a bit out of our way, so we weren't sure it was going to be worth it. Luckily, when we were getting serious about turning around, we finally start moving.

Abby did well with this. We took her out of her carseat and rolled the windows down. She was waving to semi-truck drivers and some of the cars behind us. She had plenty of people waving back, too :-)

She liked to be behind the wheel...
Sandy enjoyed Abby's carseat!
I just think this one looks funny since she blinked right when I was taking the picture...I had to take a picture of the police that we saw a LOT of this trip...
And all the traffic the other direction (they were having to wait their turn while we finally got to go!) And yes, we have a lovely crack in our windshield--don't mind that! The drive home was decent. Abby just doesn't love the car as much as she used to...well, she probably never actually loved the car to begin with, but we would've never known because she would sleep. She just doesn't sleep that well in the car anymore. She is SUCH the tummy sleeper, and I really think she just can't get comfortable.

So........to keep her entertained, she saw this: Slinky Nose! C'mon, y'know you want one!
You might be a redneck if your child's toy is a Crystal Light container. (She loves it! She puts toys in, puts the lid on, pulls lid off, dumps toys out, and does it over and over and over.)

And some funny faces she makes at me along the way...
Sandy is addicted to the air vents, so she spends half her car ride like this...

and the other half like this... And then--I totally thought it was starting to rain. And it was raining, just not normal rain drops. Y'know those nasty, most annoying lovebugs? They were everywhere, and a lot of them died this day, I must say. Our car was hideous. Pay attention under the windshield wipers. Disgusting!

We made it home in normal time, woohoo! And pretty much all we saw of Gustav was some wind, a bit of rain, and these clouds... Now, after all that...don't you want to enjoy a car ride with us? :-)
